Thompson Takes On Giuliani Over Guns

New York Times

Campaigning at Skip’s Gun and Sport Shop in Bristol, N.H., today, Fred Thompson took a swipe at Rudolph W. Giuliani’s record on gun control, saying the former New York mayor “simply supported just about every gun control legislation that came down the pipe.”

Mr. Thompson said the New York City isn’t a model for the rest of the country and Mr. Giuliani should not base his positions on his experiences there.

‘’He relates everything to New York City. Well, New York City is not emblematic of the rest of the country, I don’t think. I think the sentiments of those people in the rest of the country are in support of the Second Amendment — which is where I’ve always been and I don’t think he’s ever been,'’ Mr. Thompson said, according to the Associated Press.

Dems are like NASCAR, Thompson says

ABC NEWS

Republican Fred Thompson tried to rev up support for his presidential campaign Tuesday by comparing his Democratic rivals to race car drivers who only know to turn left.

It's like they're all in training for the NASCAR, you know, nothing but a left turn, just steady as she goes, all the way around," he said at a coffee house in northeastern Iowa.

"I don't think the United States of America is prepared to turn the keys over to the most left-wing part of the left-wing party," he said.

Thompson visited a NASCAR-themed restaurant in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and joked about his rivals Giuliani and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

"Now, when Rudy and Mitt come down here from New York and Massachusetts, I want you to be nice to them. And the first thing I want you to do is explain to them what NASCAR is, "Thompson said. "It's not a hybrid automobile."
